Appointment of Tutor in Systematic Theology and Church History

We are very pleased to announce a new faculty appointment at Oak Hill. Dr Matthew Bingham, subject to visa approval, has been appointed as Tutor in Systematic Theology and Church History.

After completing undergraduate studies at UCLA, and then an MDiv at Princeton Theological Seminary, Matthew was Senior Pastor at Flint Reformed Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia, from 2009-14. For the last four years he has been in Belfast completing a PhD in Church History at Queen’s University under Prof. Crawford Gribben, and subsequently working as a ministry associate in a local church. Matthew is married to Shelley with three young children.

College Director Dan Strange writes: ‘We are thrilled that Matthew has been appointed to this crucial faculty post. He comes to us highly recommended both in terms of academic excellence and pastoral wisdom. Even in the short time we have spent with him, we have immediately recognised someone who is a gifted communicator and teacher. We are confident that in our goal to form ministers of the gospel, Matthew will be able to inspire students in his illumination and application of church history and doctrine.’

Matthew writes: ‘At a time when the Church faces tremendous pressure from within and without, the need for serious theological and biblical training is more pressing than ever. Oak Hill College equips men and women to face these challenges by offering rigorous instruction set within the sort of living, breathing Christian community that is ideal for both pastoral and intellectual formation. It is thus with great enthusiasm that I look forward to joining Oak Hill’s outstanding faculty as Tutor in Systematic Theology and Church History. I am convinced that careful, historically informed theological reflection can energise and nourish one’s ministry and I count it a great privilege to help Oak Hill’s students as they prepare for lifetimes of faithful service in Christ’s Church.’

We look forward to welcoming Matthew and his family in the summer, ready for the start of the 2018-19 academic year. Please do pray for them as they make this big transition.
